A few TikTok: heads and tails weeks ago! I wrote on this blog about the need to seek and find balance when talking about social media! teens! and children . Now! here’s a brief “parent’s guide” to TikTok.
You don’t need to open a profile to view the content. Just download the app on your phone: this gives you access to the most popular videos! the sound search tool! profiles! hashtags! and more. Content of all kinds and styles! without any filters (you do need to create an account to record and publish videos).
And your children! have they asked you to open a TikTok account fo
Profiles can be public or private. If the account is set to private! only people accepted as followers will you subscribe to my linkedin newsletter? will see the videos and be able to send messages. However! the owner of the private account will have no restrictions on viewing content posted on the platform.
Duets are a TikTok: heads and tails hit. Just select a video and tap the share icon to create a c level executive list duet: the screen splits in two! and you can record and post your own version! a duet with your favorite music star. Irresistible! right? But be careful! because anyone can also create a duet with your videos (sometimes with unforeseen! even insulting! consequences). In Privacy Settings! you choose who you authorize to do this: everyone! friends only! or no one.
Manage interactions. Privacy Settings also allows you to select who can comment on videos! react to videos! and send messages: everyone! friends only! or no one.
Anyone can download your videos. They can then post them on other networks! or send them canada email lead to others without your control or consent. It’s prudent to disable this option in Privacy Settings > Allow Downloads.
Screen time management and Restricted Mode.
TikTok offers the option to limit screen time and restrict access to videos rated as unsuitable for adults by entering a four-digit code in the Privacy and Settings > Digital Detox menu. The time limit is set in intervals of 40! 60! 90! and 120 minutes. The code expires after 30 days and must be renewed after that.
Video management. Once published! you can change the visibility of the video and mark it as private! so that only friends or the creator can see it. You can also disable comments or delete them! and you can also delete the entire video! if you wish.
Reaction videos. This is another TikTok feature! similar to duets! but with a different format: the video you react to still fills the entire screen! and your “reaction” video is posted smaller in the top corner. In Privacy Settings! you select who can react to your videos.
Not just video recording. TikTok also allows you to upload previously edited videos and photos from your phone. You can even create video sequences from a series of photos.
“I don’t like it.” This option prevents TikTok from suggesting videos you’re not interested in. Just hold your finger on the video in question: a broken heart will appear.
The TikCode. It’s the equivalent of Snapchat’s Snapcode: it identifies users of the platform so they can be added as friends.
Direct Messaging. You can only send direct messages to other users if you have a mobile phone number linked to your profile (even your friends or followers). If the account was created with an email address and the mobile number isn’t added! TikTok doesn’t allow direct messaging (Musical.ly did).
